Blues History
Two Cultures Collide
The history of the blues starts with the blending of African and European cultures. During the birth of the United States, slavery was prominent in the southern colonies of Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia. Most of the slaves that were displaced in these colonies originated from West Africa.

As the two cultures met during this dark period, a new music was born. Blending African traditions, folk instruments and styles, with European musical styles and instruments with African, the blues was starting to take shape.
